ROLE SUMMARY:
The Senior Injury Management Advisor (SIMA) provides specialist advice and leadership across health, return to work, fitness for role, injury management, early intervention, medical screening, and workers compensation matters for both employees and volunteers. The role also supports VICSES' contractual obligations with EMV by coordinating and managing volunteer injury and compensation claims in line with agreed service requirements
This position is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation and administration of return‑to‑work programs, early intervention initiatives, and workers compensation claims for staff and volunteers. A significant focus of the role is the management and resolution of complex and sensitive medical screening, injury management and workers compensation cases, ensuring high‑quality decision‑making and timely intervention
A key accountability of the role is providing expert leadership in the management of complex and legally contested WorkCover claims. This includes supporting the collection of information required for document discovery, legal case preparation and evidence collation, and working closely with Health and Safety, Health and Rehabilitation Lead, Workplace Relations and legal representatives
The SIMA provides specialist technical advice on medical screening processes and outcomes and works collaboratively with managers and leaders at all levels to ensure consistent, informed and person‑centred decision‑making for both employees and volunteers
Success in the role requires a person‑centred approach, strong stakeholder engagement capability, an adaptable, solutions‑focused mindset, and a team player while contributing to the implementation of the Health and Wellbeing Strategy across VICSES. Experience specialising in mental health and workers compensation claims is desirable
Travel between Units and offices may be required occasionally

As the largest road rescue network in Australia we have specialist teams that provide a 24/7 response to road accident and trauma incidents. We assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, and play an important role in supporting CFA, FRV, Parks Vic and DEECA during major bushfire and emergency incidents
